Greg has a new, highly controversial, article! One of the most difficult aspects of the problem of evil is how to account for violence and suffering in the animal kingdom throughout the millions of years of evolution prior to the creation and fall of humans. In a newly published essay entitled “Evolution as Cosmic Warfare,” Greg Boyd defends the bold and controversial thesis that this problem can only be adequately resolved if we accept that God wasn’t the only supernatural agent involved in the evolutionary process. Arguing primarily on the basis of Scripture, Boyd makes a compelling case that we should rather see evolution as reflecting the cosmic battle between God, on the one hand, and Satan and other demonic agents, on the other.  Just as Satan and demonic powers are behind sickness, disease and deformities today, according to the New Testament, so they have been at work for eons working to corrupt God’s good work of creation.  The fact that there is progress in evolution, Greg argues, is evidence of God’s ability to bring good out of evil and ultimately triumph over it. Greg  concludes his article by discussing how his warfare perspective on evolution can be integrated into the creation story of Genesis 1 and 2.
